CS.UAH.EDU > RESOURCES > NEW USERS

Welcome to the Computer Science Department at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. This Document is provided as an introduction to the department's computing resources for new users. Users of the department's computing resources must read the Computer Resource Policy.

The department currently has two categories of computer systems: UNIX and Windows 2000/XP. If you receive a computer account from the department, you have actually received two distinct accounts, one for UNIX and one for Windows. Each account has a separate password

If this is your first time on a UNIX computer, you might want to read up on our UNIX Tutorial

E-Mail

Currently, email is handled only through the UNIX systems. Email accounts are in the form username@cs.uah.edu. The standard way to read and send email through the department is to logon to one of the UNIX machines and run a email program, such as pine or mail. The department also provides POP access to email (the server is mailhost.cs.uah.edu). Email is accessible through our secure webmail located at http://email.cs.uah.edu, however SMTP is unaccessible off-campus.

If you would like to create your very own home page, check out our info on creating a webpage.
