CS Department Computer Account Policy (09-24-01)

The following policies are in effect for any accounts on all computers under the direct administration of the Computer Science Department. This includes PC's and Sun systems. See the System Administrator for clarification if needed.

1. There are two types of accounts:

a. Permanent An account that expires each semester, but can be renewed without being enrolled in a CS class.

b. Semester
(or class account) an account that expires automatically at the end of the current semester is not renewable.

2. Students who are majoring in CS are entitled to a permanent account once they have an approved Program of Study on file with us.

3. Students who are registered for any CS course are entitled to a semester account.

4. All student accounts will expire two to three weeks after the end of each semester. Renewals may be requested starting the first day of each new semester.
You may renew on-line at http://www.cs.uah.edu/account/.

5. It is our intent that all accounts have a responsible owner known to us, and that all responsible owners are aware of our usage agreement rules. We have recommended the following policies:

6. Full-time employees of the Computer Science Department are not required to fill out an account request form. They are entitled to keep their account as long as they are full-time employed here. Such accounts are not subject to expiration.

7. Permanent account holders must fill out an account request form. Their accounts may be renewed on-line at the beginning of each semester.

8. Class accounts will expire at the end of each semester and are not renewable unless the student enrolls in another CS class.

9. Any student in the University may be assigned a semester account if a full-time CS faculty member is willing to authorize the student's need.

10. If a student drops out of school or is dropped for cause, then that student's account(s) should normally be closed. Once the student's new status becomes known to either a staff or faculty member, then the system administrator will close out the pertinent accounts. (09-01-95)
