Basic Information
This course will explore the reasons that some of the tools of
computer security, such as cryptography, work. Some of the course
goals will be to:
Gain a thorough understanding of zero-knowledge proofs.
Perform cryptanalysis case studies.
Understand the topics of computational complexity,
pseudo-random numbers, and one way functions.
Investigate the application of techniques, for example to watermarking
or steganography.
This course is will differ significantly from previous versions of cs
685 and will build upon knowledge gained in cs 585 (or pre-2003
versions of cs 685).
The course work will consist of exams over lecture material, a small
number of cryptanalysis problems, and a paper/project with a
presentation.
