Overview

Exploratory visualization allows both novice and experienced users to interact with and learn about large distributed computations through an exploratory process. A user can start with a high-level view of the computation and then focus in on what is of interest to them, through an interactive monitoring session of a running computation.

Query-Based Visualization takes advantage of the user only requiring some information to make the data collection more efficient. In particular, my research has focused on providing the data collection of a continuous stream of snapshots of the computation in question. The challenge is to collect as little information as possible (for efficiency reasons) and still provide the information that the user is interested in and guarantee a consistent view of the computation's behavior.

I have also investigated how software agents can be applied to monitoring and steering of large distributed computations. Agents are promising because of they allow functionality to be added easily and dynamically.

More information about my current research can be found here
