Folders and Files Walkthrough
Folder Creation
- Double click the “My
Computer” icon on the desktop
- Double click the “C
Drive” icon
- Double click the “Temp”
folder icon
- From the File
menu select new - folder
- Name the new folder
with your last name and hit “Enter”
- Double click the icon
for the folder you just created to open it
- Create another folder
and name it “Programs”
- Create another folder
and name it “Data”
- Create another folder
and name it “HomeWork”
- Create another folder
and name it “Samples”
Renaming a Folder
- Select the HomeWork
folder you created above by clicking its icon
- From the File
menu select rename
- Type a new name called
“Chapter-1_HW” for the folder and hit Enter.
- Your folder is now
renamed
Deleting a Folder
- Select the “Samples”
folder by clicking on its icon.
- From the File
menu select Delete.
- A confirmation box will
appear.
- Select the “yes” button
on the confirmation box and hit “Enter”
- Your “Samples” folder
will be deleted.
Copying a Folder
- Insert a floppy disk
into the 3 ½ inch drive. (Ask for help if you can’t find it.)
- Select the “Programs”
folder (C-Drive) by clicking on its icon.
- From the Edit
menu select Copy.
- Double click the “My
Computer” icon on the desktop.
- Double click the “3 ½
Drive” icon
- A window will appear
showing the contents of your floppy disk.
- Place the curser in
that window and click the mouse.
- From the Edit
menu select Paste.
- A copy of the
“Programs” folder should now appear on your floppy disk and its icon will
appear in the window for the 3 ½ floppy drive.
Moving a Folder
- Insert a floppy disk
into the 3 ½ inch drive if you have not already done so.
- Place the curser over
the icon of the “Data” folder.
- Without moving the
curser press the RIGHT mouse button.
- You will get a pop-up
menu with several options.
- Scroll down to the “Send
To” option.
- Another cascading menu
will appear.
- Move the curser over
the 3 ½ Drive icon that appears on the cascading menu
- Click the mouse button
when the 3 ½ Drive icon is highlighted.
- This will send the
“Programs” folder to your floppy disk and you will see its icon appear
when the move is completed.
