Folders and Files Walkthrough

 

Folder Creation

  1. Double click the “My Computer” icon on the desktop
  2. Double click the “C Drive” icon
  3. Double click the “Temp” folder icon
  4. From the File menu select new  - folder
  5. Name the new folder with your last name and hit “Enter”
  6. Double click the icon for the folder you just created to open it
  7. Create another folder and name it “Programs”
  8. Create another folder and name it “Data”
  9. Create another folder and name it “HomeWork”
  10. Create another folder and name it “Samples”

 

Renaming a Folder

  1. Select the HomeWork folder you created above by clicking its icon
  2. From the File menu select rename
  3. Type a new name called “Chapter-1_HW” for the folder and hit Enter.
  4. Your folder is now renamed

 

Deleting a Folder

  1. Select the “Samples” folder by clicking on its icon.
  2. From the File menu select Delete.
  3. A confirmation box will appear.
  4. Select the “yes” button on the confirmation box and hit “Enter”
  5. Your “Samples” folder will be deleted.

 

Copying a Folder

  1. Insert a floppy disk into the 3 ½ inch drive. (Ask for help if you can’t find it.)
  2. Select the “Programs” folder (C-Drive) by clicking on its icon.
  3. From the Edit menu select Copy.
  4. Double click the “My Computer” icon on the desktop.
  5. Double click the “3 ½ Drive” icon
  6. A window will appear showing the contents of your floppy disk.
  7. Place the curser in that window and click the mouse.
  8. From the Edit menu select Paste.
  9. A copy of the “Programs” folder should now appear on your floppy disk and its icon will appear in the window for the 3 ½ floppy drive.

 

Moving a Folder

  1. Insert a floppy disk into the 3 ½ inch drive if you have not already done so.
  2. Place the curser over the icon of the “Data” folder.
  3. Without moving the curser press the RIGHT mouse button.
  4. You will get a pop-up menu with several options.
  5. Scroll down to the “Send To” option.
  6. Another cascading menu will appear.
  7. Move the curser over the 3 ½ Drive icon that appears on the cascading menu
  8. Click the mouse button when the 3 ½ Drive icon is highlighted.
  9. This will send the “Programs” folder to your floppy disk and you will see its icon appear when the move is completed.
